The Regency Chess Company Reviews:
Elegant rosewood Antipodean chessmen with a unique dual-colour design, paired with the Queen’s Gambit-style chessboard from Rechapados Ferrer for a striking, tournament-worthy set.
Inspired by the idea that in chess, while there is an enemy, the toughest opponent can often be yourself, our partner craftsmen created the design of both sides carrying the same colours. These chessmen are an excellent representation of this idea. The expressive grains and colour of exotic rosewood represent something else entirely: luxury.
In terms of material quality, each piece has been expertly polished, triple-weighted and felted on the base. These measures ensure that these juxtaposed chess pieces will never need replacing.
Following the huge success of The Queen's Gambit on Netflix and the significant increase in the popularity of chess, we thought it would be fun to place the Antipodean chessmen on the Queen's Gambit chessboard. Whilst the chessmen are not exactly as seen in the series, it does create a very similar-looking set nonetheless.
Take a look at the scene where Beth and Borgov meet at the 1968 USSR Chess Championship, you will see that this is exactly the same design. At 50cm, this is a true tournament-size chessboard, and the matte finish of the dyed black popular and ash root makes it a wonderful surface for your pieces to glide over. This beautiful chessboard has been created by the world-famous Rechapados Ferrer and radiates sheer class and elegance.
