A beautifully traditional chess set featuring Highclere Series ebony Staunton pieces, a handcrafted walnut chessboard by Manopoulos, and a matching dark wenge chess piece case.

The design is classic Staunton, with a beautifully carved knight and bishop. The set comprises a 7.6cm king, and whilst the set is relatively compact in size, there is certainly no compromise in detail or excellence. Each piece is polished by hand, balanced and perfectly weighted and their broad bases are covered with green billiard cloth.

We have matched the Highclere chessmen with a superbly presented wooden chessboard crafted from quality walnut and maple veneers.

Renowned for their expertise in marquetry and backgammon sets, this 50.8cm chessboard is produced by the reputable family Manopoulous, based in Greece, and has a delightful old-fashioned artisanal feel and look about it.

For when you are ready to tear yourself away from this set, we have added a perfectly constructed chess piece case in laminated dark wenge coloured wood. This superb piece is also crafted by Manopoulos of Greece, so you can rest assured product has been well made by expert craftsmen. The brass colour hinges and the Manopoulos signature brass clasps to keep the lid closed add to the elegance of this box.
