High-quality Abingdon chessmen paired with a classic Spanish mahogany chessboard – a beautifully balanced set with expert craftsmanship at great value.

These Abingdon chessmen have a very high quality of finish and attention to detail and exceed all expectations on what you get from such a modestly priced set.

Crafted from solid boxwood, each piece has been expertly turned, with the knights being hand-carved only by the most experienced and talented of craftsmen.

To create the look of real ebony without creating the associated price tag, the boxwood pieces undergo a chemical ebonising process. They are then weighted for perfect balance, and all bases are felted with billiard cloth to protect any playing surface.

To accommodate them, we have matched the chessmen with an equally superb mahogany chessboard from Spain. With the 8.9cm king, we have selected the chessboard from this particular range, and with 4.8cm squares, the pieces sit perfectly. This design of chessboard is something of a classic, with its clean and basic lines, you will have seen similar in famous tournaments.
