Outstanding quality Italian-made briarwood and elm veneer chessboard. Finished in a quality lacquer, the wood grain and knotting of the briarwood look simply sublime and has a rich depth of tone and patterning that can only impress. The inlaid veneer squares are bordered with a thin veneer of ebony that sections off the playing area from the edge.

The underside of the chessboard features a lacquered wooden veneer and has felting pads to protect surfaces underneath. The colouring and tone of this board is best suited to black pieces, either ebonised boxwood or solid ebony, with a king height of 7.6cm.
